2026-27 Season Overview
Auditions
- Date: Friday, September 18, 2026. Between 5pm to 8pm.

- Audition fee: $20 (please include the student’s name and instrument in the eTransfer to sohraeorchestra@gmail.com)
- Scheduled audition times will be emailed in September.
- Auditions are in person and open to all orchestral instruments including: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Piccolo, Oboe, English Horn, Bassoon, Clarinet (in Bb and A), Bass Clarinet, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, and Tuba.
- Prepare for your auditions according to the audition requirements for your instrument: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, french horn, trombone, tuba, violin, viola, cello, double bass.

Woodwinds Audition Requirements 2026-27
Please note the following audition requirements for your instrument and email us with any questions. Looking forward to seeing you in September!
1st Flute
- Prepare up to 3 minutes of your chosen repertoire or étude. Candidates are strongly encouraged to select from RCM level 4-8 and pay attention to pitch and accuracy.
- Flutists who would like to audition on piccolo are encouraged to bring both instruments to the audition. Prepare any chromatic scale on the piccolo.
- Scales: B chromatic scale 2 octaves. G# minor scale 2 octaves (harmonic or melodic).
- Excerpts: Orchestral excerpts will be emailed in July to all candidates who have completed their audition registrations. Candidates are strongly encouraged to seek out and listen to recordings of the audition pieces and be prepared to play all of them.
2nd Flute

- Scales: C chromatic scale 1 or 2 octaves. G# minor scale 1 octave (harmonic or melodic).
- Excerpts: Orchestral excerpts will be emailed in July to all candidates who have completed their audition registrations. Candidates are strongly encouraged to seek out and listen to recordings of the audition pieces and be prepared to play one of them.
1st Clarinet

Brass Audition Requirements 2026-27

Trumpet
- C Major scale 1 octave. (concert Bb)
- F# Minor scale 1 octave harmonic or melodic. (concert E)
- Prepare one solo piece up to 3 minutes long.
- Excerpts: Orchestral excerpts will be emailed in July to all candidates who have completed their audition registrations. Candidates are strongly encouraged to seek out and listen to all the audition pieces included in the excerpts list.
French Horn
- F Major scale 1 octave (concert Bb)
- B Minor scale 1 octave harmonic or melodic. (concert E)
- Prepare one solo piece up to 3 minutes long.
- Excerpts: Orchestral excerpts will be emailed in July to all candidates who have completed their audition registrations. Candidates are strongly encouraged to seek out and listen to all the audition pieces included in the excerpts list.
Trombone
- Bb Major scale 1 octave.
- E minor scale 1 octave harmonic or melodic.

Tuba/Baritone/Euphonium
- Bb Major scale 1 octave.
- E minor scale 1 octave harmonic or melodic.

- Scales: One major scale and one minor scale (harmonic or melodic). All three octaves.
- Excerpts: Orchestral excerpts will be emailed in July to all candidates who have completed their audition registrations. Candidates are strongly encouraged to seek out and listen to recordings of the audition excerpts and be prepared to play all of them at the audition.
2nd Violin

Viola
- Prepare up to three minutes of a solo piece of the candidate’s choice.
- Scales: any scale 3 octaves.
- Excerpts: Orchestral excerpts will be emailed in July to all candidates who have completed their audition registrations. Candidates are strongly encouraged to seek out and listen to recordings of all the audition excerpts and be prepared to play one of them at the audition.
1st Cello
- Prepare up to three minutes of a solo piece that best demonstrates your musical ability.
- Scales: F minor scale harmonic and melodic 2 octaves. D major scale 3 octaves. D major arpeggio 2 or 3 octaves.
- Excerpts: Orchestral excerpts will be emailed in July to all candidates who have completed their audition registrations. Candidates are strongly encouraged to seek out and listen to recordings of the audition excerpts and be prepared to play all of them at the audition.
2nd Cello
- Prepare up to three minutes of a solo piece that best demonstrates your musical ability.
- Scales: A major scale 2 octaves. A major arpeggio 1 or 2 octaves. A minor scale harmonic and melodic 1 or 2 octaves.
- Excerpts: Orchestral excerpts will be emailed in July to all candidates who have completed their audition registrations. Candidates are strongly encouraged to seek out and listen to recordings of all the audition excerpts and be prepared to play one of them at the audition.
Double Bass
- Prepare up to three minutes of a solo piece that best demonstrates your musical ability.
- Scales: Any major scale 2 octaves. Any minor scale harmonic and melodic 2 octaves.
- Excerpts: Orchestral excerpts will be emailed in July to all candidates who have completely their audition registrations. Candidates are strongly encouraged to seek out and listen to recordings of all the audition excerpts and be prepared to play one of them at the audition.
Membership Fee and Registration
- Program registration will take place on Friday, October 2, 2026.
- Program fees:
- 1) Fall term: $550 per person. Discount for two siblings: $1000/two siblings.
- 2) Winter term: $350 per person. (this includes the final concert ticket fees)
- Students who register only for the Winter term: $750.
- The program fees include: weekly rehearsals and snacks, Camp Day in April, Winter concert, Final concert, photo, video, and certificate fee.
- Upon registration, it is assumed that you have read and understood our policies.
Rehearsals
- Orientation and first rehearsal on Friday, October 2, 2026, 5:30pm – 7:30pm.
- Subsequent rehearsals every Friday 5:30pm – 7:30pm.

Camp Day
