About Us
The Toronto Sohrae Youth Orchestra is the largest non-profit organization of its kind in Toronto, primarily composed of Korean-Canadian students. Our mission is to foster cultural appreciation among youth, and to share our musical talents with the community in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Founded in 2003, the group initially began as an ensemble for Sohrae Presbyterian Church during Sunday worship services. In 2004, the orchestra became an independent non-profit organization after receiving government approval.
We welcome all students who are passionate about music to audition, regardless of religious beliefs.
Members of Toronto Sohrae Youth Orchestra attend weekly rehearsals, perform in various community events, and hold annual concerts in reputable concert hall across the city including the Glenn Gould Studio and George Weston Recital Hall. All proceeds from our concerts have been donated to various charitable organizations in Toronto such as the Toronto City Mission, Mil-al Mission, Joy Women and Children’s Mission Society of Canada, Muslim Welfare Centre, World Vision, and Korean Senior Citizen Society of Toronto.
